Meet Mr. Jamal Washington
Jamal Washington serves as the Director of Bands at
Northbrook High School in Houston, Texas.
About Mr. Jamal Washington
Mr. Jamal A. Washington is a native of New Orleans, Louisiana and an honor graduate of Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where he earned a Bachelor of Music Education.
While at Southern University, Mr. Washington was a member of the Southern University Marching Band more affectionately known as “The Human Jukebox”, the Southern University Wind Symphony, the Southern University Brass Ensemble, the Southern University Trumpet & Horn Studio, and various other ensembles on campus.
Mr. Washington is also a veteran of the United States Army where he served as an Infantryman and a Public Affairs Specialist. After graduating from Southern University, he taught in Louisiana for 4 years before moving to Houston.
Being a band director is his dream job, and to him it is so much more than a job or career. When asked, he describes it as a lifestyle or way of life.
When it comes to education, he believes that discipline will always get you further than talent; and that having the fortitude to combine the two unlocks the limitless potential that exists in each and every student.
